Future Aspects of Positron Spectroscopy

1987

In the first week of this conference experimentalists made us familiar with the features of the positron peaks observed in the collision of very heavy ions with atoms. We learned that these peaks are not understandable in terms of known positron production mechanisms like monoenergetic pair decay of excited nuclear levels or the proposed spontaneous positron production in superheavy atoms. In addition, theorists told us that, at present, also the interpretation that the positron peak structures originate from the decay of a previously not observed neutral particle is in contradiction to well-known experimental facts. Some of you may have, in addition, become confused by the results of the t…

Initial state azimuthal anisotropies in small collision systems

2015

Strong multiparticle azimuthal correlations have recently been observed in high energy proton-nucleus collisions. While final state collective effects can be responsible for many of the observations, the domain structure in the classical color field of a high energy nucleus also naturally leads to such correlations. We describe recent calculations of the momentum space 2-particle cumulant azimuthal anisotropy coefficients v_n{2}, n=2,3,4 from fundamental representation Wilson line distributions describing the high energy nucleus. We find significant differences between Wilson lines from the MV model and from JIMWLK evolution. We also discuss the relation of this calculation to earlier work …

Features of W production in p-p, p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions

2017

We consider the production of inclusive W bosons in variety of high-energy hadronic collisions: p--p, p--$\overline{\rm p}$, p--Pb, and Pb--Pb. In particular, we focus on the resulting distributions of charged leptons from W decay that can be measured with relatively low backgrounds. The leading-order expressions within the collinearly factorized QCD indicate that the center-of-mass energy dependence at forward/backward rapidities should be well approximated by a simple power law. The scaling exponent is related to the small-$x$ behaviour of the quark distributions, which is largely driven by the parton evolution. An interesting consequence is the simple scaling law for the lepton charge as…
